Abstract [en]

Despite many innovative initiatives, virtual mobility is still a relatively unexploited aspect of internationalisation at European universities. An internal project at Linnaeus university, Global Classroom, has aimed to create a framework and organisation to establish international networking and online collaboration as key elements of all degree programmes. The project aimed to promote the concept of virtual mobility and inspire faculty to adopt it in their programmes. A self-evaluation tool was developed for use in workshops with degree programme coordinators. This tool helps them assess their programme’s present status of internationalisation and highlight potential development areas. Each programme team can then, in consultation with the project team, devise and implement an action plan in order to achieve these objectives. The project also developed a toolbox for digital collaboration and worked with other institutions to offer an online collaborative course for teachers in the art of online collaboration. Another important issue was to create incentives for teachers to work with virtual mobility, including the use of digital badges. This session aims to discuss how virtual mobility can be mainstreamed and what types of incentives are needed as a catalyst for development.

Abstract [en]

Based on recent studies from cognitive narratology and psychology, highlighting the potential of fictional texts for understanding the reader’s own emotions and fostering empathy, this essay examines more closely the main protagonist’s emotional states in Alina Bronsky’s young adult novel Scherbenpark (2008). Different narrative techniques used in the text develop a complex character which sheds light on the intensive identity building processes during adolescence.

Abstract [en]

This article examines the portrayal of the GDR and the societal processes of upheaval during autumn 1989 in children’s literature. In the two selected texts, Klaus Möckel’s Bennys Bluff oder ein unheimlicher Fall  (1991) and Holly Jane Rahlens' Mauerblümchen (2009), Berlin children and young adults with eastern and western backgrounds explore the newly unified city. The storylines in both books unfold very shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the social and societal differences between East and West are still present and apparent.

Analysis of the texts reveals the presence of East and West in the cityscape and how the developing political changes influence the presentation of urban life, the description of childhood, the places that the protagonists explore and the characters’ interaction with other Berlin people. Furthermore, the article emphasises the importance of reflecting both on the presentation of East and West biographies, and on places of historical significance, such as like the border-crossing point, Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse.

Abstract [de]

Abstract [en]

It is an important step in the reading socialisation of young and inexperienced readers to understand how literary genres are constructed. This article examines the different ways of how authors introduce genre conventions of detective novels for young readers. It is based on three texts, written for readers between 5 and 8 years with a focus on a text by Franz Fühmann. The author connects the structure of a fairy tale with elements of detective novels, which is examined using the theoretical framework of Vladimir Propp.

Abstract [en]

In the novel Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner, published in 1929, the contemporary city of Berlin is set as an urban topos in which children navigate in an independent and self-confident way. Also more recent detective novels choose Berlin as the scene and make use of its cultural and geographical diversity. This chapter focuses on Andreas Steinhöfel’s Rico, Oskar und die Tieferschatten (2008) and examines which urban spaces in Berlin are presented, how the protagonist orients himself in the city, and what function the mapping has. The analysis focuses on how the psychological learning process of orientation in a city can be supported by children’s literature.
