Alternativa rejektvattenbehandlingsmetoder

Alternative methods of reject water treatment (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This Degree Project has been done at the wastewater treatment plant, Sundet, in Växjö and discusses the alternative methods of reject water treatment. The purpose has been to try to reach complete nitrogen removal with an external carbon source and start up a pilot experiment with Anammox bacteria and study the process. Reject water, which is rich in nitrogen, is treated with SBR-technology (sequencing batch reactor), which means that the reject water is treated batch wise. During each batch nitrification and denitrification is performed and it’s in the denitrification step the external carbon source comes in. Since the reject water treatment hasn’t worked satisfyingly, the goal about complete nitrogen removal hasn’t been reached. But during the last week the tendencies shows that the process is moving at the right direction. The Anammox process is a newly developed process that means that the only thing you need is Anammox bacteria to convert ammonium and nitrite to nitrogen gas. Unfortunately, the goal wasn’t reached about making a working process. Instead the process has been studied and laid the foundations of further experiments in the future.
