Abstract [en]

The aim for this essay is to describe the Thai democracy and its conditions regarding further development and consolidation. This case study intends to explore and study the Thai empirical within five arenas involving civil society, political society , rule of law , the state bureaucracy and the economic society. These venues will then enable insight to which of these factors facilitate or hinder the further development and that a full consolidation of its democracy takes place. Current scientific research papers, news articles on the Internet will form the major part of the empirical research, allowing the work to its extent to be most updated. Thailand's democracy today has limited freedom of speech; furthermore there are several problems that are hidden below the surface. Politicians with business background have taken over the country, and this in turn has affected the country and its people thoughts on democracy. Corruption can be seen frequently in the country and it is only a matter of time before the King, who is seen as a stabilizing factor in the country abdicates. The tension within the political arena of the country has long influenced the further development of democracy in a negative way, and as long as the elites in the country does not reach consensus, then the further development of democracy will stand delayed.
