The use of music as a tool in different subjects: Teachers' experience with the benefits of music in education
Linnaeus University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Education.
2015 (English)Student paper other, 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Children can benefit from musical education in a lot of areas, even non musical areas as the teaching of music can support the performance of students in other subjects. A big benefit of music in school is also the use of music as a teaching tool in different subjects. This research study investigates if, why and how teachers use music as a tool when teaching and also which experiences teachers have in general with the use of music in the classroom. A qualitative approach was taken, using interviews to collect data. The collected data is discussed and analysed in the context of the literature. The results obtained reveal that teachers do integrate music as a tool in almost all the subjects and that generally their experience with using music in the classroom is positive.
