Abstract [en]

Many examples of unethical and unauthentic leaders can be found in the business world. Thereby this study aims to add a valuable contribution to authentic leadership development literature, while the results of this thesis may be used in the development of business studies in this field. In detail, this study aims to explore by which means the master level leadership program of Dr. Dr. Philippe Daudi influenced the development of the authentic self and moral identity of its students. Therefore, by conducting interviews with former students, influencing factors of the program and the effects these factors had on the authentic self and moral identity of these students are being found and assigned to different steps of the Authentic Leadership Development process. Furthermore this study aims to provide further insights in the correlation of the development of morality and authenticity. The Systems Approach is used in order to analyze the results. These reveal that the program influenced the authentic self and the moral identity of its participants over the years mainly through supporting self-reflection and providing perspective using a variety of means. Furthermore a theoretical model was developed, which illustrates the relation between the elements of moral identity and the authentic self by putting them into the framework of Social Cognitive Theory.
