Abstract [en]

This study examines women's political participation in Yemen and the political challenges women go through politically. Political participation represents the finest expression of democracy because it is based on the participation of citizens in disposing of the issues of the city, neighborhood, or institution. In addition, it is considered one of the necessary mechanisms for expressing the will of citizens and consecrating the sovereignty of the people. Political participation is also considered the basis of democracy and a primary manifestation. One of the manifestations of citizenship and one of the most critical components of the modern national state that distinguishes between democratic political systems that are based on citizenship and equality in rights and duties, and between totalitarian or authoritarian regimes that are based on the monopoly of power by a specific group. Four interviews were conducted with journalists. The findings were a combination of interviews with key informants and a text analysis that showed how democracy was applied in the country with the intended group in society. Feminism (intersectional feminism) theory was utilized as a theoretical framework to analyze the findings.
