Abstract [sv]

Vid reduktion av kväveoxider med en SCR-katalysator är katalystorns temperatur central för katalysatorns funktion. Om katalysatortemperaturen inte är korrekt finns risk för att få oönskade kväveoxidutsläpp under uppstartningsfasen. Detta examensarbete syftar till att med hjälp av ett simuleringsprogram, FEMLAB 3.0, undersöka uppvärmningsförloppet i en SCR-katalysator. Vid simulering används matematiska modeller för att utvärdera tre fysikaliska fenomen, konvektion, värmeledning och fluiddynamik.

Abstract [en]

When reducing nitrogen oxide with a SCR catalyst the temperature is of importance for the catalyst reducing properties. The absence of an accurate catalyst temperature during start up will cause NOx emissions. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the heating of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst, with the aid of a computer software called FEMLAB 3.0, the investigation includes evaluation of the influence of fluid velocity and the inlet gas temperature. Furthermore the impact of three physical phenomenon; fluid dynamics, convection and conduction is to be considered in the mathematical model.
