Abstract [en]

This essay is about a Swedish city festival called Karl-Oskardagarna that takes place every year in August, in the city of Växjö. The study aims to portray the festival’s change over the years and how the local bands has been presented on the festival from it’s start until this day.

The festival’s main theme since the start in 1984 has been about the Swedish emigration to the United States of America. Karl-Oskardagarna has over the years gone through many changes, which has turned the emigration-theme more and more into the background. These days the concept is mainly about being a festival that attracts a broad audience and to present the local bands from Växjö, within the musical program. The festival seems to be proud of showing up the local culture to the audience with bands like especially The Ark and Melody Club.
