Easy to read...or is it? : An analysis of an easy-to-read fiction book (English)
Abstract [en]

The aim of this essay is to investigate the simplifications that result when a work of fiction is adapted for easy reading by pupils with reading difficulties. A subsidiary aim is to examine how text and pictures relate to each other in the easy-to-read book. The material is analysed and divided into categories that exist for easy-to-read books. The result shows that the text in the easy-to-read book has not undergone any textual simplification, but only graphical changes in combination with the addition of more pictures. These graphical changes facilitate reading for pupils with reading difficulties and help them to develop their reading ability.
