University of Kalmar, Baltic Business School.
2005 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Magister), 15 poäng / 22,5 hpStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The main aim of this thesis is to show the needs, importance and the requirements of sustainable tourism development through the key players of the industry. Furthermore, this study discusses a five-star-quality that needs to be considered not only in the sectors of the tourism industry, but also for the overall industrial activities as well as for its environmental and social components. With an in-depth interview analysis, conducted in Antalya, Turkey, the stakeholders are identified and the fundamental issues are discussed. Sustainable tourism development, in this study, is comprehensively studied with the Stakeholder Theory and the Collaborative Approach as tools. Political, economic and social pressures on the stakeholders in developing countries are vital; however sharing a common target may create more responsibility and consequently result in the successful realization of the goals of all the interest groups. Thus, the effect of Corporate Social Responsibility is taken into account as a fundamental issue. Consequently, this thesis is concluded with some personal reflections on regional and national tourism development.
