Abstract [en]

How to understand this? – About constructing an understanding of what and how in the new after a reorganization.

This is an action research study in social science about constructing understanding in organizational change. The purpose of the study was to collect knowlege of how co-workers in a Swedish Parish understand a new organization, how to cooperate in it and how this understanding constructs. Some of the common understanding in societiy is how we have arranged things to create order. One of these things, this paper suggests, is hieracy in organizations. It is a common organizational phenomenon we more or less take for granted. The study try to explain what happens with the common understanding when an organization reduce their hierarcial system and try to do things in a different way. With institutional theory as a lens the study suggests that that rules, actors and acting constitute each other and create a good enviroment for constructing common organizational understanding. It also highlights that when rules for how to do things are missing the understanding process tend to stay on hold.
