Abstract [en]

Title: Million Program Light – A comparative study on segregation in a city and a rural municipality.

Author: Amanda Sahibzada

The purpose of this study is to identify and interpret if and how segregation can differentiate between a city and a rural municipality in Sweden, this with a comparative approach. The study conducted a mixed method in which the author collected statistics, made observations and performed semi-structured expert interviews. The analysis is based on a thematic projection of the empirical data. The study concluded that there are several similarities between the investigated areas, such as the proportions of foreign-born residents, acquisition workers and levels of education. Further the study concluded that segregation in rural municipalities might be more concentrated than in cities. Although this can only be semi-concluded since the study is only based on segregation in two areas. Future studies would gain wider accuracy if they included a higher number of areas as well as interviews with residents. However, this study contributed to highlighting segregation in rural municipalities in Sweden and increased the understanding of how it can differ from segregation in cities.
