Abstract [en]

Research questions: How do smaller bakeries communicate their sustainability work? What are the bakeries’ motives for not reporting sustainability? Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the extent to which bakeries work with sustainability as well as if and how they communicate their sustainability work to their customers and suppliers. The purpose of the thesis is also to create an understanding of why bakeries do not choose to report sustainability. Method: A qualitative study with an abductive approach. The empirical data was collected through interviews with selected bakeries. Conclusion: The thesis concludes that the communication of the bakery´s sustainability work varies between the selected bakeries as their sustainability work differed. The main reasons why the bakeries do not use sustainability reporting are a lack of time, money and knowledge. Furthermore, the lack of commitment and interest in sustainability reporting is perceived due to lack of resources.
