Fundamental values in teaching French as a foreign language in Sweden : the example of Chez nous (English)
Abstract [en]

Moral education has become an essential issue in Swedish schools and, since textbooks are important teaching tools, they have become the object of some research in the field of pedagogy. The purpose of this study is to investigate how values can be conveyed in textbooks used in second language learning. The analysis is based on Chez nous, a textbook used in some schools in Sweden.

By using different theoretical perspectives in discourse analysis, this study examines the content of the school manuals in regard to the concept of values. Thus, the teaching material is considered a social and cultural artefact that contributes to shaping a vision of the world. The inquiry evolves around two questions: What are the values expected to be taught according to official directives and to what extend are the FLE manuals adequate for the accomplishment of this task?
