Frivilliga Organisationer: och dess betydelse för demokratin
University of Kalmar, School of Human Sciences.
2008 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

In this essay I have looked at the relationship between non-governmental organizations and politics and their role in political decision-making. In an effort to limit the scope of this study it has been concentrated to the area and politics of Sweden. I reviewed the theories concerning these non-governmental organizations and their role in society after which I investigated several relevant organizations by means of looking at their structure, purpose and methods of achieving their goals. Depth is added to this investigation through the execution of interviews with persons involved in organizations but also with a politician of the major party in Sweden, the social democrats, in order to allow him to serve as the political side of the matter. Subsequently I used statistics to enlighten certain conditions, namely the changes in electoral voting, political membership and amount of political discussion amongst the population. Naturally I have also voiced different academic opinions on the issue of organizations and the role and meaning they may or may not have in democracy and its politics.
