Abstract [en]

The concept of digitalisation is confronting us in almost all life areas. The sphere of schooling understandably does not constitute an exception. From wide range platforms like the MOOCs to tools like Moodle – the electronic world is conquering this essential part of life of more and more children, adolescents, young adults and of course, their parents. The all-over access to the Internet, both at school and at home, offers new possibilities for parent involvement mediations and for parent-school interaction. This study focuses on the parents’ perception on the usage, requirements and impact of the use of electronic school management systems. The goal is to search for a better understanding about the existing situation and point out requirements that could successively, produce improvements in the convenience of the use and the effectiveness of electronic school systems. The present study applied the qualitative approach for research. The researcher used qualitative, unstructured interviews as the chosen method of primary data collection. The collection of data was further extended by an online survey, which followed further the qualitative nature of the study in the design and the deployment of the questions. The main findings of the study identified:- a necessity for enhanced information structure and distribution within schools;- a necessity for more direct and straightforward interaction in the school life of children, a necessity for more digital awareness in schools and faster acceptance and employment of new media by teachers;- a necessity for more digital awareness in schools and faster acceptance and employment of new media by teachers- and a necessity for inclusive electronic school information system with perceived requirements by parents. The author of the present paper has developed the perception, that digitalisation of the schools in this particular research setting is generally limping in its entirety from the standpoint of parents. Certainly, there are steps in the right directions, but there is no holistic approach regarding this important topic. The present study shows big research gaps in the field of digitalisation at schools in connection to parent involvement and this produces many opportunities for further research.
