Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the essay is to describe how police officers in external service at a police area conduct an interrogation with a plaintiff in an assault and to what extent they use evidence-based methods in their interrogations. The informants (N = 7) participated in semi-structured interviews. They attach great importance to the free narrative during their interrogations. They talk about a structured way in which they conduct their interrogations. The structure is similar to the PEACE model, which is evidence-based. There are deviations from the PEACE model when it comes to preparations before the hearing in the form of lack of time. In the PEACE model, several independent methods can be included, which also have evidence. One of the models that can be included is the cognitive interview. The cognitive interview contains different parts, the study shows that two parts perspective and chronological shift are not used by the police. The informants say that their theoretical foundation was laid during the training for the police, but that they then developed their ability during the practical work.
