Abstract [en]
The aim of this study is to investigate what research suggests is the most effective approach to combating match-fixing. Furthermore, the study aims to describe how the sports movement and institutions in Sweden work to combat match-fixing. Finally, the design of match-fixing is examined from research and theoretical perspectives.
The methodology used in this study is a systematic literature review and a document analysis. The analysis was conducted through the hermeneutic circle. The literature review revealed three elements that describe match-fixing, which are the approach, consequences, and measures against match-fixing. Furthermore, three aspects were found to play a crucial role in combating match-fixing, namely prevention, regulation, and monitoring. The document analysis shows how Sweden works against match-fixing by taking part of documents from the Swedish Sports Confederation, Swedish Football Federation, Swedish Parliament, Crime Prevention Council, Gambling inspectorate and Police Authority.
The results of the study showed that the significant aspect is the Gambling Act (2018:1138) as well as the Swedish Sports confederation's anti-match fixing regulations, as it provides the opportunity to control the gambling market and increase monitoring. According to the implementation theory, regulations can be used to act if an organizationdoes not comply with the decisions taken to combat match-fixing.
