Abstract [en]

Affective values that customers ask for in products are not only difficult to capture but also difficult to implement in companies' product development processes. In this work, two different methods, Kansei Engineering and Quality Function Deployment are combined to overcome these difficulties. Kansei Engineering is used as a method to interpret and translate the affective values into technical design requirements. Quality Function Deployment is used to systematise the implementation of the affective value into the design process. The thesis presents a case study on the development of battery chainsaws with an added clutch mechanism. The case study shows possibilities to combine the two methods in a product development process and that the procedure adds value for a better understanding of the connection between customer requirements and technical requirements. Furthermore, the study found possible new ways for how to conduct Kansei Engineering. The study also explores the possibilities and shortcomings of implementing Kansei Engineering in Quality Function Deployment.
