Newly graduated marine engineers : How competent are they? (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The work as a new marine engineer can be stressful and demanding in several ways and in order to be able to carry out the work correctly, the right skills are needed. The purpose of the study is to gain an insight into whether newly graduated marine engineers have enough competence to perform the duties of Second engineer and in what ways the skills have been acquired.  To find out, five marine engineers were interviewed. The results show that pieces of knowledge that are part of the final competence comes from several different contexts both before and during the education at the marine engineering program and that the interviewed engineers feel competent enough to handle the job as second marine engineer.
