Background: Cloud computing has grown in popularity among companies and organizations.Less attention has been directed to the human perception toward the adoption of cloudcomputing; in particular, about the perceptions of millennials.
Aim: The aim of this thesis is to identify factors influencing perceptions towards cloudcomputing adoption of individual millennials. Moreover, this research focuses on gatheringinsights, describing and explaining their perspectives on cloud computing and the perceptionsto adopt cloud computing technologies at organizations.
Methods: The applied methods for this research include participant interviews. Semi-structuredinterviews were lead with individual participants online. A deductive approach was used forcreating themes. Additionally, interviews were analysed by a single researcher.
Results: The main findings of this study include a set of specific factors that were confirmed bythe participant interview to have an influence on cloud computing adoption perception. Morespecifically, this study confirms the previous studies on the following factors: attitude towardoutsourcing, size of IT department, socio-cultural factors, tech readiness, compatibility andexpected omnipresence, existing infrastructure, IT budget size, perceived value, data security -factors identified in the literature review.In addition, this study contributes to the academia by proposing new factors - which have notbeen identified during literature review - that have an impact on cloud computing adoptionperception. These factors include COVID-19, research area, outages of electricity or internetconnection, different levels of data sensitivity and environmentally friendly aspect. On the otherhand, this study does not confirm the following factors having an impact on perception towardscloud computing adoption: conformity with parent organization, organizational innovativeness,top management beliefs, top management satisfaction, top management support, resultsdemonstrability, adoption by competitors, adoption by customers, adoption by suppliers,adoption by trade associations, competitive pressure, complexity, decision risk, finance risk,switching costs, and upfront costs.
Discussion and conclusions: The findings of this study should be evaluated in light of itslimitations. This study has the following limitations: study time horizon, small sample size,hidden factors, cultural differences, and product category. Overall, this study offers a betterunderstanding of the perceptions of millennials towards cloud computing adoption. Thesefindings contribute to theoretical knowledge, and can moreover function as a basis for futureresearch.
