Escaping the Stereotypical: A character analysis of Addie LaRue in V.E.Schwab's The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
Linnaeus University, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Department of Languages.
2023 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

With the support of earlier research about female heroes and the representation of female characters in fantasy, this essay argues that V.E. Schwab subverts common gender stereotypes in the portrayal of the character Addie LaRue in The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by showing how Addie learns to escape the confining gender expectations of her early life and develops into a hero.
