Abstract [en]

This research thesis aims to explore and find out how the use of wearable devices can aid soccer players to improve their performance and help them eliminate accident prevalence. Also,to see how the athletes and training staff understand this technology.

This research thesis is focused on athletes' and training staff (coaches, physiotherapists, and actual trainers) understanding of the wearables' introduction during training and competitive games and how this affects their play, training, and working practices.How wearables are aiding in the athletes' performance and what are the problems they are facing? How they have managed to overvome them if they have overcome them.

Regarding the data collection, they were interviewed mainly, soccer players, coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists of a professional local team in Crete that uses wearables during competitive games. The observations took place during training sessions and competitve games of this local team only.They were observed the same participants that were interviewed. Since this team was not using wearable devices during the beginning of 2022 because of their former coach's objections.I also interviewed the athletes of other soccer teams that had either used wearables on a daily basis in the past or are currently using them. The empirical material was collected by conducting semi-structured and non-structured interviews as well as observations in their natural physical settings. Great care was taken not to interfere with or disrupt players and the rest of the staff during the research.
