The emergence of station communities : A quantitative study of the railway's impact on population growth in Småland communities. (English)
Abstract [en]

During the period 1860-1960, an urbanization process takes place in Sweden. There is also an expansion of the railway during this period, which is a contributing factor to urbanization taking off in some communities. This study shows how the railway has affected population growth in Nässjö, Alvesta, Älmhult, Hultsfred and Berga, five communities located in Småland. The study shows how innovations on the railwat have affected these places differently, where some get to take part in all the innovations and others only a few. It will show how these places have changed over time and how the railway has influenced and compare differences and similarities between the societies.
