Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of the study was to investigate and determine the most common injuries and risk factors for injuries within a local gym in Sweden. A survey was distributed at two different facilities within the same gym-organization, directly to the participants. Of the 98 participants, 19 (18,63%) reported having suffered an injury while exercising at the gym during the recent 12 months. The injury rate was determined to 1,12 injuries per 1000 hours of training. Results show a significant difference (p=0,023) between the injured group and the un-injured group related to injuries in the past training background. No further significant differences were found between the groups. However the most commonly injured bodyparts was the shoulder (20%), lower back (20%)  and knee (13,3%). Most injuries were due to overload or poor technique. The incidence of injuries is quite similar to the incidence of injuries in powerlifting and bodybuilding.
