Abstract [en]

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a way for companies and organizations to implement practices that displays their values through actions that are aligned with their goals, objectives, and culture. Conducted research that has been reviewed shows that CSR is complex and tailored to specific markets, industries, etc. There is a lack of research when it comes to Swedish CSR implemented in China. The research is conducted to answer the questions ’’What challenges do Swedish MNEs face when implementing CSR in China? How can these challenges be dealt with?’’ The purpose of the research is to investigate the challenges that Swedish MNEs face when implementing CSR practices in China. This research aims to give insight into how MNEs handle these challenges and how CSR can be a contributing factor when entering a new market. The research on Scania as a case study will investigate its strategic entrance into a new market, and how they navigate and implement its CSR practices. The conclusion resulted in reframing CSR as a part of a larger framework covering internal and external business sustainability when entering China.
