The controller role across borders : How the controller role changes across national borders. A qualitative study of differences in the controller role between different countries, within the same company. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background & Problem Discussion: Over time, the role of the controller has gone from a staticrole with a focus on numbers to a business partner with a broader perspective who works withmanagement. Previous research indicates that the controller's role can vary depending on wherein the world you are, which can depend on a number of different factors. However, the researchhas not focused on how the role varies within an international company that operates in differentcountries.

Purpose: The purpose is to examine and compare the role of controllers between differentcountries and its impact on digitization, culture and legislation.

Delimitations: The essay focuses on controllers from different countries within the companyHusqvarna AB. Digitization refers to the digital programs and tools that controllers use in theirdaily work, and culture refers to the corporate culture that exists within the company.

Method: A qualitative method with semi-structured interviews has been carried out. Thematerial from eight interviews with controllers has been transcribed, analyzed and discussedbased on the frame of reference.

Conclusion: The controller role within Husqvarna, when it comes to tasks and responsibilities, does not differ to a large extent between Sweden, Norway, England and Poland. Small variationsin the role were noted and are due to factors such as cultural differences, the progress ofdigitization and legislative requirements.
