Quality from a Moral Point of View : a Qualitative Study about two Municipalities Policy Documents for the Systematic Quality Work in the Leisure Center (English)
Abstract [en]
The aim of this qualitative study is to understand the description of quality, for the leisure center,as highlighted in two Swedish municipalities' policy documents for systematic quality work, and to interpret and understand which basic moral views these descriptions of quality express. The study takes its point of departure in a hermeneutic approach, where documents have beenexamined through a content analysis and data have been analyzed with inspiration from JohnDewey's theory of moral. The results highlight three common themes for quality aspects withinthe municipalities 1) Student development, 2) School success, 3) A complementary activity.Within the two municipalities, these themes of quality are expressed in different ways, whichcan be summarized by two different basic moral views. The one municipality express a moralview focusing on: personal success, while the other municipality express a moral view focusingon: social success. The study shows that when there are certain differences betweenmunicipalities regarding what are described as fundamental qualities, certain moral differencesare also made visible. However, the study also highlights that the definition of quality in theleisure center is a complex area which can not only be explained by differencesin municipalities'moral approaches.
