Abstract [no]

Abstract [en]

In this article, we analyze the portrayal of the transgender motif in the picture book Ollianna (Dahle & Nyhus, 2020) and discuss the ideas about children and childhood that underlie. In particular, we investigate whether the portrayal of trans and cis people in Ollianna is normative, and to what extent the book contributes to challenging or maintaining existing gender norms. The analysis examines how the book portrays the literary character Ollianna’s agency and the importance of support from her surroundings.
