Abstract [sv]

I detta examensarbete undersöktes svenska konsumenters köpbeteende gällande olika livsmedelskategorier som ekologiska, närproducerade, hemodlade och konventionella. Detta genom en kvantitativ metod med enkätundersökning. Data samlades in från svenska hushåll genom enkäten för att analysera hur deras vanor och attityder gentemot ekologiska produkter har förändrats över tid.

Stora drag av studiens resultat stämmer överens med tidigare studier;(I) Priset är den huvudsakliga barriären för inköp av ekologiska livsmedel.(II) Den ekologiska trenden visar en nedgång.(III) Konsumenterna är benägna att betala mer för både ekologiska och närproducerade livsmedel än konventionella, varav viljan att betala för ett närproducerat livsmedel står sig starkare.(IIII) Viljan att köpa ett ekologiskt producerat livsmedel behöver inte ha ett samband med en demografisk faktor.

Vidare visade resultaten att konsumenter upplevde en minskad konsumtion av ekologiska produkter där den faktiska köpfrekvensen har minskat gentemot tidigare studier. Detta upplevde konsumenterna korrelera med de globala omständigheterna som lett till prisförändringar. Priset är den absolut viktigaste faktorn hos konsumenterna och denna avspeglar också dess vilja att betala för närproducerade och ekologiska livsmedel gentemot konventionella. Studien visade att konsumenter är benägna att betala mer för ekologiska, men synnerligen närproducerade livsmedel. Vidare påvisade resultatet att intresset för närproducerade och hemodlade livsmedel under de senaste fem åren ökat.

Abstract [en]

The thesis investigated the changing purchasing behavior of Swedish consumers towards organic food and analyzed their interest in other food categories such as locally produced, homegrown, and conventional. Employing a quantitative methodology with survey questionnaires, data were gathered from Swedish households to analyze how their habits and attitudes towards organic products have evolved over time. The main findings of the study align with similar trends as in previous research: 

(I) Price remains the primary barrier to purchasing organic food.(II) The organic trend shows a decline.(III) Consumers are willing to pay more for both organic and locally produced foods compared to conventional ones, with a stronger inclination towards paying for locally produced items. (IV) The willingness to purchase organically produced food may not correlate with demographic factors.

Furthermore, the results indicated that consumers perceived a decreased consumption of organic products, with the actual purchase frequency decreasing compared to previous studies. Consumers attributed this decrease to global circumstances and resulting price changes. Price emerged as the most crucial factor for consumers, reflecting their willingness to pay for locally produced and organic foods over conventional ones. The study revealed that consumers are inclined to pay more for both organic and locally produced foods, with a stronger preference for locally produced items. Additionally, the results demonstrated an increased interest in locally produced and homegrown foods over the past five years.
