Does the manual provide cultural and sociolinguistic competence in the studies of Spanish as a foreign language? : "A study based on teachers' perceptions" (English)
Abstract [en]

The teaching of Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) at levels A1 and A2 has traditionally focused on the acquisition of formal linguistic skills, neglecting sociolinguistic cultural competence or basing it on stereotypes (Miquel, 2004). However, nowadays these competencies play a fundamental role in communication in real situations, as well as contributing to students reflecting on their own culture (Skolverket, 2022).

The main objective of this thesis is to explore the integration of components in manuals that promote these competencies at levels A1 and A2. To achieve this, a quantitative investigation has been carried out to measure the perception of teachers at levels A1 and A2, as well as a qualitative analysis of the Gleerups manual for being the lowest rated by the respondents. The results reveal that this manual does not provide sufficient cultural or sociolinguistic competence to the students. On the other hand, according to the perception of the teachers, other manuals do provide these competencies to the students, Wherever, all participants agree that standardization from the Ministry of Education should be implemented to determine which components should be included to avoid confusion.
