Abstract [en]
This thesis investigates the potential of Johanna Drucker's visualisation theories to transform project management visualisations, specifically addressing epistemological biases present in traditional tools like Gantt charts. It aims to answer the research question: To what extent can Drucker's theories on visualisationinform the development of project management visualisations that address epistemological biases based on feedback from academics and professionals?Through exploring Drucker's concepts of capta, prototypes, and user-centricity, this investigation developed and evaluated six prototype visualisations, each focusing on different aspects of project management. The findings revealed through a survey reveal a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in translating theoretical frameworks into practical tools, emphasising the importance of balancing theoretical soundness with a user-friendly design. The insights gained from this investigation contribute to a broader dialogue on project visualisation, suggesting new avenues for creating project management visualisations that addressand communicate inherent biases and foster a more comprehensive understanding of complex project dynamics. The prototypes presented in this thesis serve as a foundation for future research and development in this field, with the potential to significantly enhance project management practices across diverse and interdisciplinary contexts, alongside the feedback from the survey, which would allow for the creation of additional iterations without the need for added data collection and analysis.
