Safety representative´s legal position in Swedish working life (English)
Abstract [en]
The number of hours an employee works during their lifetime and frequency of work-related injuries highlight the need for a satisfactory work environment. In order to achieve a satisfactory work environment, safety representatives are needed. Representing the employees and cooperation with the employer are examples of safety representative’s duties. Safety representatives exist in different types and at different levels in Swedish working life. At larger workplaces, safety committees also become relevant.
The essay studies the legal position of safety representatives in Swedish working life. More specifically, the study focuses on the powers and areas of responsibility of a safety representative. Additionally, the essay outlines the obligations and special protections afforded to safety representatives. The essay is based on a legal dogmatic method, which forms the foundation for jurisprudential work. The material that forms the basis of the essay is primarily laws, propositions, case law, doctrine and literature.
The results show that the safety representative holds a strong legal position in Swedish working life. It can be confirmed that the safety representative's legal position not only ensures security for the representative, but also strengthens the working environment in general. Furthermore, the safety representative must be appointed through a proper procedure and act in their role according to the established guidelines.
In summary, the safe representative has a high legal position that benefits the work environment in general, but there are requirements and guidelines to follow in order to exercise their rights.
