How Social Services work with elderly people who are exposed to violence in a close relationship. (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to investigate and increase knowledge about how social services handle cases where there is violence in a close relationship with individuals over 65 years of age. The purpose is further to describe and analyze which interventions are available, as well as whether they are adapted to an elderly person's needs linked to age, support needs and functionality. Violence in close relationships among the elderly is a social problem and a dark story that is not being noticed. The data collection consists of 8 semi-structured interviews with people in the social services. When analyzing the results, two theoretical concepts have been used: the normalization process and ageism. Results from the study show that work with violence in intimate relationships among the elderly is complex and fraught with many challenges. To be able to offer professional treatment, it is necessary that professionals receive the right knowledge and information about what violence can look like in the elderly.
