2006 (English)Conference paper, Published paper (Refereed)
Abstract [en]

Persons with CHF experience they are not helped or supported to learn how to relate to their life-situations. The aim of this study was to describe the meaning of the phenomenon: living with moderate – severe CHF as a middle-aged person. A lifeworld perspective based on a phenomenological approach was used. Seven persons were interviewed (four men and three women, age 38 to 66 years). Living with moderate-severe CHF as a middle-aged person means a life situation characterized by a rapidly changing and unpredictable health condition, a constant immediate threat to life and an ambiguous lifeworld. The essence is illuminated by the constituents: An ambiguity of the body, losing track of life and balancing life. Knowledge of the problems people with CHF face in their everyday life is beneficial to caregivers in order to understand and appreciate patients with this debilitating condition. More knowledge into this debilitating disorder is needed.
