Abstract [en]

This thesis focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and especially the way by which they are led. In fact, this work emphasises on the main features of the mergers and acquisitions process. For instance, it highlights the reasons that push a firm to merge with another one and it demonstrates all the phases of the integration process of such an operation. In addition, the paper clarifies the role of the leadership in the implementation of a merger and acquisition.

The aim of this paper is to understand the organisational process of the implementation of a merger and acquisition. That is the reason why it does not treat the financial and legal aspect of the procedure. Because the authors want to reach a better understanding of the merger and acquisition subject, they do not try to generate a new theory but they base their work on the existing literature.

Indeed, the thesis aims to set the context and the environment in which a merger and acquisition takes place, as well as to define what the main integration phases are. After capturing the organisational concept of mergers and acquisitions, the reader will be immersed in the leadership aspect and will be aware of what the tasks and responsibilities of the leadership are. He will thus appreciate whether the leader is a key element for a successful implementation of a merger and acquisition.
