Abstract [en]

This thesis treats the enterprise resource planning of Saab Aerotechs department Sensors, Command & Control. The authors have managed the issue of the problem through the action resource method. The modification process of UML and UP was used with the author’s compile of a case with interviews. This method has been a help tool for designing a specification of requirements, which included all the needs of the employers at the department and what they demanded of the new enterprise resource planning tool.

The reason behind this thesis arose from the commission body which set off the requirements; a more cost efficient work routine through the resource planning in the department. This study is concentrated towards a multinational project organization where the project operates collaterally. The basic foundation of this problem lies in the need of a resource planning tool which operates throughout the whole department and is used among all the employers. The problems arise when distributing resources to different projects. The project leader and the resource owner currently does not own a resource planning tool for distributing the resources to the different projects. This causes an inefficient way of planning the resources and provides difficulties for the project leaders and resource owners.

The commission body provided the authors with a list of name of employers which she thought were relevant to interview for this study. Nine respondents from the list were interviewed and they declared the issue of the need of a new resource planning tool and its prospective characteristics it requires.

The search for resource planning tools was restricted to the national market, for the reason that one of the requirements was the need of a helpdesk giving support in the Swedish language. The benefit of this requirement would be of strategically aims to make the support and maintenances of the system more easily handled. The selections of resource planning system were limited to three choices that fulfill the requirements of the needs. These planning tools will be further described in this thesis. The purpose and question of the report is; can we with the help of an action research method and the UML process, recommend a resource planning tool at the company Saab Aerotechs department Sensors, Command & Control.

Frågeställning och syfte; kan vi med hjälp av aktionsforskningmetoden och UML- processen rekommendera ett resursplaneringsverktyg på företaget Saab Aerotechs avdelning Sensors, Command & Control?

Examensarbetet behandlar resursplaneringsprocessen på Saab Aerotech avdelningen Sensors, Command & Control. Författarna har angripit problemområdet med hjälp av aktionsforskningsmetoden i kombination med UML-processen. En fallstudie med intervjuer på avdelningen har genomförts. De krav som framkom i fallstudien har sammanställts. Detta har sedan resulterat i utformningen av en benchmarking genom tre utvalda resursplaneringsverktyg. Med utgångspunkt från benchmarking har ett verktyg rekommenderats som uppfyller de krav avdelningen har ställt.

Anledningen till att området behandlas är att författarnas uppdragsgivare ansåg problemområdet som en ineffektiv och kostsam arbetsmetod. Avdelningen har i dagsläget inte något resursplaneringsverktyg som bidra till en mer effektiv arbetsmetodik. Företaget är en multiprojektorganisation där flera projekt bedrivs parallellt. Grunden till problemet är att projektledarna och resursägarna inte använder sig av något resursplaneringsverktyg, för att kunna få en helhetsbild av resursfördelningen på hela avdelningen. Effekten blir att varje enskild persons beläggningsgrad är osynlig och detta medför svårigheter.

Uppdragsgivaren gav författarna en lista av möjliga medarbetare från avdelningen som denne tyckte var lämpliga för studiens undersökning. Medarbetarna kände väl till problemet och kunde därför kartlägga de egenskaper som ett nytt resursplaneringsverktyg bör innehålla.
