Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to understand ART – instructors experience of possibilities and obsticals surrounding the implementation of a method in residential care unit. The method is spread nationwide and therefore it is of great importance to examine how the method is implemented since it has been nationally efforts made to raise the quality of practical social work. The study has a qualitative approach interviewing seven Aggression Replacement Training instructors at a national board of institutional institution. The result was analyzed using Evert Vedung´s implementation theory. We found that the ART – instructors themselves had a positive approach using the method and associated manual. The enabling factors also consisted that the ART – instructors felt that the ART – master and the director of the institution was supportive. The inhibiting factors during the implementation was the ART – instructors experience of that the remaining staff did not have sufficient interest or knowledge regarding the method and that they felt indistinctness concerning who was responsible for the actually implementation. The results also showed that all ART – instructors felt that it was a lack of time consisting for planning before ART lessons and documenting afterwards, and lack of time to teach the method to other staff. These inhibiting factors may contribute to a delayed implementation, which can result in that individuals who have been adopted to benefit from the operation will suffer. We found that the Art – instructors experienced that there was no following up on the implementation of the method in the departments of the institution respectively.
