Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The intention of this study was to explore if and how teachers are working to connect the mathematics teaching to the everyday life and the textbook’s role in the context. The informants are from different school years, have different educations and have different professional experience. Through interviews it has emerged that the textbook has a large importance in the teaching, but that this necessarily doesn’t mean that it prevents the teachers from connecting the mathematics teaching to the everyday life. It has also emerged that all mathematics doesn’t have to have a connection to the everyday life, since some mathematics has an abstract intrinsic value. Whether the mathematics teaching is connected to the everyday life or not is dependent on the situation. The informants connect the mathematics teaching to everyday life in different ways and within different subjects.
