No clue & panic without gadgets : An inquiry of Swedish youth‟s habits with mobile electronic media (English)
Abstract [en]

The object of this thesis is to try to answer “to what extent do youths have electronics in their home and what do they use it for?” and “are there any connections between young people's mobile use of electronic media and their lifestyle and social conditions at home?” We decided to do a survey and limited the population to youths in the 9th grade. By visiting three different schools in Småland we got a total of 221 surveys.

In general, the cell phone is dominating the electronic life of the youths. Only one person did not have a cell phone. They use internet mostly on laptops and cell phones and a small amount of youths also have internet on their musicplayer and their game consol. But overall they do not reflect about when and how they use internet. In terms of lifestyle, we can see that it does affect how they use mobile electronics, but not in a crucial way. Generally all the youths use their cell phones more than any other electronic device and they all have a very alike way to use all their electronics. In the socio-economic class perspective we did not see any big differences. There are some tendencies that show that the workers have a lower range of electronic devices. They do not have all the different types of devices but they have a lot of cell phones and laptops, more than the other two groups.
