Abstract [en]
Today we live in an information society where information is a valuable resource. But what happens to those people who can not read and understand information the way the society requires? Public libraries are an important resource available to all people and have buy law to pay particular attention to specific groups in society. Easy-to-read media is one of the tools that public libraries have to offer citizens how can not read or understand written information. The porpose of this study is to examine how public librarians work to make Easy-to-read material available for their audience. The purpose is also to study whether public librarians experience any obstacles in their work to increase the accessibility to the different Easy-to-read target group. A qualitative method with depth interviews have been used to reach the objective. I have used my own interpretation of Michael Bucklands barriers of access to information as at theoretical base and to analyze the interviews.
The result of the study shows that the respondents work around five of Bucklands barriers. They also say that they are experiencing problems in their work around the barriers of identification, understanding, availability and Cost of the provider.
