Title: Soft Communication in a Hard Copy Country - A study about strategic HIV/AIDS Communication in Botswana Level: BA Thesis in Media and Communication Studies focus Peace and Development

Location: Linnaeus University, Växjö

Language: English

Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate how Botwana´s two National Strategic Frameworks for HIV/AIDS are being used practically in the work of local NGOs and how local context is of importance for strategic communication.

Method: The method used is qualitative interviews with representatives from different Botswana NGOs as well as textual analysis of the National Strategic Frameworks for HIV/AIDS.

Result: The issue in Botswana is not that the population lack knowledge about HIV/AIDS, but that the authorities (both NGOs and government) has failed to connect the disease to reality. Therefore the strategic communication must aim at enabling this connection using culturally sensitive messages and mediums.
