What is efficiency in policing, how is it measured and what are the implications? In this qualitative study I interview twelve retired, current and future police officers regarding their thoughts and views on efficiency inpolicing and its implications in their vocation. Their answers are compared to "new public management" definitions of efficiency. There is a distinct difference between the two. They belive that increased calls for measuringand efficiency can infact lead to a lack of efficiency and deter them from doing their work in a proper manner.
