Abstract [en]

The article explores the background of a Pascal-Jean-Balthazar, a person of Asian origins who ended up in 18th-century France and claimed to be the "prince of Timor". From new archival findings, his claim is contested at the same time as being put in context of Timorese society and colonial processes.
