Abstract [en]

There is an ongoing trend in which a growing number of states are becoming concerned with the security aspect of cyberspace. Several of these states have or are creating national cyber security strategies. This essay studied the political development concerning cyberspace in four Nordic countries by the use of a textual analysis constructed from three key ideas from the theories realism and liberalism. This was then applied to the three national cyber security strategies belonging to Finland, Denmark and Norway, as well as the newly published proposal for a Swedish national cyber security strategy. This was done to discern whether the political developments concerning cyber security that were expressed in these strategies could be explained by any of the two theories. The result shows that the two theories are more of a complement to the other in explaining these strategies.
