Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out how teachers talk about how they teach writing and about their assessment of pupils’ texts. The study is an attempt at a discourse analysis to find out how teachers perceive texts and the teaching of writing. The method used for collection of data for the study is interviews with teachers. The interviews were analyzed in terms of themes, processes and participants. The interviewed teachers point out that teaching writing is important since it prepares pupils for the future. The assessment should function as support in the pupils’ development. The analysis also shows that the pupils are responsible for their own development, but that teachers serve as help and support along the way.
