Abstract [en]
Participation of households in separation of their waste at home is essential for achievement of high rates of re-use and recycling of waste. This study aimed to reveal how waste management in a country influences household participation in waste separation at home. In this aim, waste separation behaviour of 113 university students from Sweden and 114 university students from Bulgaria was investigated in the framework of the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Study results showed that lack of proper conditions for separation of waste can prevent households from waste separation at home, regardless of their positive attitudes. When people are satisfied with the local conditions for waste separation, their waste separation behaviour would depend on their attitudes towards waste separation and recycling.
Abstract [sv]
The Theory of Planned Behaviour.
