Abstract [en]
By focusing the prayer life of medieval peasant communities, Viktor Aldrin has chosen an original theme for his PhD thesis. Few medieval catechetic handbooks or other religious writs deal explicitly with members of the peasant community. More rewarding are miracle collections of various saints, in which it is not unusual to come across peasant men and women, who pray with their own words, with no clergyman present. Prayers were learnt by imitating other praying people, for example godparents, and by participating in liturgy.
