Author: Thomas PIAULEYTitle: Examining the Last Mile problem and implementing Sustainable Solutions for it. Background: Last Mile logistics in Urban Freight Transportation Purpose: This study has various purposes. In the first part, my intention is to extend knowledge on the Last Mile problem, by studying the different conflicts separating Freight Operators and non-Supply Chain actors. Such conflicts are due to diverging motivations that polarize the actions of each stakeholder and my intention is to prove that there isn’t one Last Mile problem but a set of different problems and that Freight Operators should take into account the concerns of Public Public Authorities. The purpose of the second part of this study is to help Freight Operators take into account the concerns of Public Authorities within their operations by embracing Sustainable logistics solutions. I then review existing solutions and argue in favor of the adoption of Cycle Logistics. Method: Qualitative Research Results, conclusions: Freight Operators and Public Authorities are driven by diverging interests, which explains their conflicting goals. Freight Operators would benefit from embracing Sustainability within their activities. Sustainable Logistics can be implemented through different ways, and the success of such implementation is driven by solid collaboration between Public and Private Stakeholders as well as a logistics design that negates the weaknesses of innovative solutions. These guidelines can potentially allow the implementation of Cycle Logistics, which I see as the ultimate Sustainable urban transport mean.
