Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

One of the major reasons to a failure within systems development is a lack of user acceptance. One solution is to involve users within development project. Several studies show that an increased involvement of users in systems development projects increase the chance of success and increase the user’s acceptance.

In this writing moment it is unclear when, how, why and in which scope users should be involved in systems development and how it could benefit or disbenefit systems development projects within the Swedish industry. The purpose of this research has been to study how Swedish organizations knowingly or not knowingly use know Human-centered design methods, where the focus of the research is to possibly clarify theoretically known dimensions within Human-centered design. In order to be able to answer the purpose of this research we have used a deductive approach and a qualitative method for gathering data were three group interviews has been conducted at three different organizations, one group interview for each organization.

This research has explained general methods within Human-centered design that has then been analyzed toward the empirical data.

The result of this research shows that the organizations we have studied does in fact use known methods within Human-centered design but do so not knowingly. Further on, this research shows that the approach used by the organizations is different depending on which target group is in focus in the development stage.
